December 19, 2008 – Vancouver, WA – DELTA Computer Systems, Inc. Using DELTA’s motion controllers can be fun as well as productive, as in a recent episode of PROTOTYPE THIS, an all new Discovery Channel television series. PROTOTYPE THIS brings viewers straight to the drawing board and through the design process to experience firsthand as inventions come to life. The Television series features a team of expert engineers who work each week to come up with one-of-a-kind prototypes of tomorrow for people to experience today. In this prototype, DELTA provided an RMC150 multi-axis motion controller and technical expertise to control the massive doughnut shaped apparatus as it simultaneously raises up and down, spins and tilts. This Backyard Waterslide episode using hydraulic power was first televised in November 2008.
“This project was fast tracked and allowed DELTA to show the versatility and flexibility of our motion controllers for controlling and synchronizing all the axes in a massive hydraulic application,” stated DELTA’s systems engineer, Dennis Ritola. “The sequence of enabling an advanced closed loop algorithm feature, testing it with our built-in simulator and then making it work on the site was vital to the Waterslide’s motion control success,” Ritola added.
DELTA’s Family of RMC Motion Controllers are used for hydraulic, pneumatic and electric closedloop control in a wide array of single and multi-axis applications, including entertainment, medical prosthesis and aerospace component testing, metals and forest products applications. DELTA’s RMCTools software and firmware features flexible User Programs with an extensive command set, including robust mathematical expressions, setup wizards, automated loop tuning wizards and an intuitive plot manager for graphical diagnostics.
