Axis Definitions: Change

To access this dialog:
In the Project pane, expand the Axes folder and double-click Axis Definitions. Click an axis in the Axis Definitions box and click Change.

Use this dialog to change an axis definition. The dialog box title contains the name of the axis being changed.

To change the axis definition, choose the settings you want in each section, as described below. When you have completed the changes, click OK to close the dialog and apply the changes to the Axis Definitions dialog.

Invalid axis definition settings will be marked with red text.

General

Axis Type: Choose whether the axis is to be a Control, Reference, Cascading Outer Loop, or Virtual axis.
A Control axis has a control output. A Reference axis has only an input, and no Control Output.  A Cascading Outer Loop axis is identical to a Control axis, but has only a software control output, not a physical control output. A Virtual axis has only a target position (and associated velocity and acceleration).

Control Loops: Applies to Control axes and Cascading Outer Loop axes. Choose the number of quantities that the axis will be controlling:

Control Loops

Description

None

The axis will not be controlling a quantity.

For Control axes, the None option makes it an Output Only axis.

None is not available for Cascading Outer Loop axes.

None is the only option for Reference and Virtual axes.

Single Loop

This axis will control only one quantity, such as position, velocity, pressure or force.

This option is available for Control axes and Cascading Outer Loop axes.

Note:
Dual-input force is considered one quantity, because the resultant force is a single quantity.

Dual Loop

This axis will control two quantities. This option is available for Control axes and Cascading Outer Loop axes.

Choose this option for the following axis types:

position-pressure, position-force, position-acceleration,

velocity-pressure, velocity-force, and velocity-acceleration

Output

This option is only available for Control axes.

Type: Indicates whether the control output is a physical output or a virtual output.

Using: Choose which module and channel on the RMC to assign the output of this axis to.

First Feedback

This section is available for all axes that use at least one input.

Type: Choose the type of input.

Using: Choose which module and channel on the RMC to assign the first input of this axis to, or choose Custom in the module selection box for Custom Feedback.

Second Feedback

This section is only available for Control and Cascading Outer Loop axes with Dual Loop selected.

Type: Choose the type of input.

Using: Choose which module and channel on the RMC to assign the second input of this axis to, or choose Custom  in the module selection box for Custom Feedback.
