Delta Motion Helps Power the Future of Automated Tire Changing

PitPro Automation’s automated tire-changing system uses a Delta Motion RMC200 Motion Controller with EtherCAT to provide the precise, coordinated motion required for this advanced robotic application. The RMC200 delivers the high-performance motion control needed to manage the system’s complex movements, while EtherCAT provides fast, deterministic communication with devices throughout the machine. It is a great example of Delta Motion technology helping turn an innovative automation concept into a real-world system.

“We chose the Delta RMC200 because of both its impressive performance and the full suite of support tools and service Delta was willing to provide along with it. Delta helped us get up to speed, and helped debug issues we ran into along the way, and the RMC has been rock solid the whole time. It’s now happily controlling 61 electric, pneumatic and hydraulic degrees of freedom on each robot we ship, and we couldn’t be happier with it.”

– Gui Cavalcanti, Head of Engineering

TECH TIPS

Calculate How Fast a Cyinder Can Go

Learn how to calculate the steady state velocity of a hydraulic cylinder using the Valve Control of Cylinder Motion (VCCM) formula. This video explains how supply pressure, load force, cylinder area, valve sizing, and valve flow ratio affect cylinder speed, giving you a better understanding of the factors that matter when sizing and designing high performance hydraulic motion systems.

Learn how supply pressure, load, cylinder size, and valve characteristics work together to determine how fast a hydraulic cylinder can move.

What is the Valve Flow Constant?

The Valve Flow Constant, Kv, is an important part of the formulas used to calculate hydraulic cylinder velocity, but what does it actually represent?

In this video, Delta Motion provides a practical explanation of the Valve Flow Constant, including how valve flow relates to pressure differential, how to interpret rated flow information from valve manufacturers, and how spool opening affects Kv.

Watch the video to gain a better understanding of the Valve Flow Constant and build a strong foundation for understanding cylinder velocity calculations.

Learn what the Valve Flow Constant (Kv) is, how it relates flow to pressure differential, and how to use it to calculate valve flow and cylinder velocity in hydraulic systems.

Integrator Limit

When Actual Position cannot closely follow Target Position, the Integral Term can continue to wind up, potentially causing overshoot or undershoot at the final commanded position.

With RMC controllers that do not have a built-in integrator limit, there are ways to limit the integrator when your application requires it. This Tech Tip explains when integrator limiting may be useful, shows the difference it can make in a motion profile, and includes an example RMCTools project to help you implement it.
