Feed forwards Augment PID Control

Feed forward augmentation is a prediction technique that estimates the output from a proportional-integral- derivative (PID) control algorithm without waiting for the PID algorithm to respond. If the feed forward prediction can estimate the control output closely, the PID algorithm, whose job it is to minimize the error between the current state of the system and the desired state, will need to do less to correct the error. This reduces the error faster or keeps the error smaller rather than relying on the PID algorithm alone. Feed forward control outputs usually are calculated using the setpoint value and its deriv- atives (based on target velocity and acceleration values) and multiplying each one by a gain. In closed loop motion control applications it is common to multiply the target speed and tar- get acceleration by the velocity and acceleration feed forwards to generate the feed forward's contribution to the control output. Programmable motion controller adds flexibility to testing blowout preventers

In a fast-moving industry such as the produc- tion of equipment for oil exploration, use of general-purpose test stands for quality assur- ance can deliver long-term benefits. With the inclusion of programmable functionality and test data logging and display, the usefulness of a par- ticular test stand design can extend far beyond its initial design purpose. ElectroNIC CONTROLS ELICIT SMOOTHER PUNCHING

Many older-generation hydraulic press and stamping machines employ simple on-off control of two position hydraulic valves to extend and retract the hydraulic actuator that does the work. In such machines, precise control of the ram position may not be a primary requirement, but velocity control can turn into a big issue. Depending on the application, the use of discrete (on-off) hydraulic valves could impact the quality of production units, and may actually be hazardous to a machine's health. Modifying a curve on the fly

Take a look at a sample project that demonstrates how to update a curve on the fly, while it is running. The project includes a couple of user programs, one that starts the curve, and another that restarts it on the fly. It is intended for a testing application where many cycles of the curve are being run.
