Delta Adds PROFIBUS-DP Communications to the NEW RMC70 One- and Two-axis Motion Controller

June 17, 2004 - Vancouver, WA - Delta Computer Systems, Inc. has added PROFIBUS-DP communications to its NEW RMC70 Series Motion controllers designed for one- and two-axis applications.

The initial releases, RMC75P-MA1 and RMC75P-MA2, complement Delta's RMC100 PROFIBUS multi-axis motion controllers, and interface to absolute position transducers-MDT (magnetostrictive displacement transducers) and SSI (synchronous serial interface).

The RMC family of motion controllers target hydraulic, pneumatic, and electric servo motion control applications with position, speed, and position/pressure needs. As with the RMC100, the RMC70 series offers easy setup, tuning, programming, and diagnostics.

Industry applications include plastics, metals, forging, forest products, testing, automotive, aerospace, waste treatment, entertainment, and others. Specific applications include injection molding, cyclic testing, cutoff saws, stacking, and positioning pinch rolls.

PROFIBUS, an open fieldbus standard, is a high-speed RS485 serial link (up to12 Mbaud), is vendor independent and is used internationally in a wide variety of industrial applications. The RMC70 acts as a PROFIBUS-DP slave, and is controlled by a PROFIBUS-DP master, such as a Siemens PLC. Additional masters are available for PLCs and systems such as Schneider/Modicon, Rockwell/Allen Bradley, GE Fanuc and others.

"Delta has been a long-time active member of the PTO (PROFIBUS Trade Organization) and this latest PROFIBUS addition to the new RMC70 series reinforces our view that PROFIBUS will continue to be a leading worldwide factory automation standard," stated Delta CEO, Steve Nylund.
